Next week Nikon in expected to release a new firmware update for the Nikon D90, not too many improvements, but any are always welcome:

Some interface improvements

Also an ISO tweak.

Improvement in the d-movie compression blue channel’s compression is too high), there will be a compression rate selector within the menu

Although there’s nothing that done about the Jello Video thing, sorry to hear about that but It’s a hardware problem, that will stay be there even in the next couple of generations of SLR with video capabilities.

As you can see this new Firmware for the Nikon D90 doesn’t improve things a whole lot but a new firmware release so soon after the release shows that Nikon is taking care of the Nikon D90 owners.

The quality and benefits of an SLR camera next to benefit more typical of the compact. This is what we found in the Nikon D90, a camera that excites equal to professional users only. Not surprisingly, is the first reflex model that can record video in HD, something that is likely to see soon with other manufacturers.

The Nikon D90 is aimed, above all, no professional photographer but that does not conform with a compact and prefer the versatility of SLR, but who wants to use it in any situation, hence the addition of video recording and a good number of automatic modes, to lend a picture to be just point and shoot.

The sensor of the Nikon D90 is a CMOS APS-C format and offers a resolution of 12.3 megapixels. Accompanying an image processing system EXPEEDTM, offering bright colors and a low level of noise at different ISO, which in this camera range from 200 to 3200, although we can force it to ISO 100 and ISO 6400.

In the sensor also incorporates a cleaning system, which removes dust particles that may have been cast in the internal filter to change lenses.

The response time of the D90 is very low, with a power of 0.15 milliseconds and a shutter response of 65 milliseconds, so we do not lose any picture because of the camera. He is able also to perform up to 4.5 frames per second.

Nikon D90

One way is the automatic that allows the recognition of scenes, which measures the color and brightness at all times and automatically adjusts exposure, white balance and focus. It was also incorporates a method of face detection, capable of looking up to five faces. To verify that the portraits have been perfect, while we are seeing the picture we can zoom automatically to the faces, we were set on display screen to check the perfect approach.

The auto of the Nikon D90 offers 11 focus points, allowing use different modes: auto at a single point to static objects, dynamic autofocus for moving objects, and 3d-tracking, when we want to keep the focus on an object but change the composition.

Once the photograph will have an editor to make changes in this, being able to apply various color filters, adjust the aberration of the lens, rotarlas slightly in case we have left twisted or apply a Fish Eye.

But one of the highlights of the Nikon D90 is the ability to record movies in HD, with a maximum resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels at 24 frames per second. The video is stored in files in AVI format M-JPEG and the camera has an HDMI output with which we can display in televisions and high-resolution monitors.

The screen behind the camera has a size of 3 inches and offers a resolution of nearly one megapixel, something very useful given that it has implemented the role LiveView, which makes the camera viewfinder, as they do the compact. The display, by the way, has a viewing angle of 170 degrees, so that we can use it and view it in any position.

The battery of the Nikon D90 will not disappoint us, because thanks to a new system that reduces energy consumption, will get up to 850 shots with one load, I imagine that the use LiveView or without the video recording, but it also quite impressive.

Nikon D90

Although the camera can be purchased only with the body apart and adding lenses will be put up for sale a kit with two, including a lens Nikkor AF-S DX 18-105 mm, which offers a zoom of 5.8 increases. This lens, which incorporates the auto engine with a silent mode, has an image stabilization system with which, according to the manufacturer, we can use shutter speeds up to three times lower than in other cameras. In Xataka picture we have all its features.

The price of the body of the Nikon D90 is around at 1000 dollars, which will be translated into Euro 1000 when he arrives here, while the kit lens will cost 1300 U.S. dollars.

Additionally, it puts up for sale on the Nikon novimebre GP-1, a GPS receiver compatible with this model that allows the automatic geolocation of the photographs taken with the camera, saving longitude, latitude and altitude in the metadata of the image.
